Phoebe

SIZE: TOY | AGE: 13 YEARS | GENDER: FEMALE

After several days of rapidly declining health, Phoebe’s foster mother held her in her arms as she went to be with her Mom at the Rainbow Bridge yesterday afternoon.

Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and well wishes and thank you to Phoebe’s foster mother who did all she could to comfort.

Rest in peace, Phoebe.

UPDATE:  Phoebe is having some neurological issues and is going in for an MRI this week.  Please keep Phoebe in your thoughts while the doctors try to figure out what’s wrong with her.  If you’d like to make an Angel Donation to help cover her medical expenses, please click below.

Phoebe was surrendered after her mom passed away. She has adapted quite well to her new foster home. She loves to walk on a leash, prancing along like a youngster, and sleeps through the night on her own bed. Although she gets along with other dogs, she doesn’t need them to be happy. In her previous home, she was an only dog and very much loved, so she would probably like a home where she has a new mom all to herself.

We are looking for a forever home where someone is home most of the day, since that’s what she’s used to. Phoebe has lots of personality and would be a loving and devoted companion. She’s a senior, but you’d never know it! She’s very healthy and is still quite curious, as she explores the outdoors. We, at Poodle Rescue of New England, know that age is only a number, for many of our toy poodles have lived well into their late teens.

If you’re interested in adopting Phoebe, please submit an application. She is being fostered in Massachusetts. You won’t be sorry!

Feel better soon, Phoebe!  You’re in good hands now!

Fifi ~ Rest in Peace

Fifi left us on Saturday morning, March 24, 2012. Many of you have followed Fifi’s story for the past 4 1/2 years and we thank you for your support and prayers. We’re grateful for the time she spent with us. Fifi was a fighter and loved life more than anything. She also appreciated a soft, comfy bed! We love you, Fifi and we miss you! Rest in peace.

Many of you have been following Fifi’s story for the past three years.  Fifi was surrendered to PRNE in November of 2008. She was a diabetic toy poodle who was taken to the vet to be euthanized because her elderly owners didn’t want to deal with her diabetes.  Fifi was obese but the vet felt she could have a good life.  His vet tech took her home but realized she wasn’t able to care for her and took her to a shelter.  The shelter director brought her home to her mother where Fifi remained for the next year.  However, she became ill and was no longer able to care for her so she went to stay with her other daughter who wasn’t able to commit the time needed to provide for Fifi and contacted us to take her in.

Wow, what a complicated beginning for poor Fifi…

Since coming into rescue, Fifi started having seizures and developed glaucoma. As a result, she had to have both eyes removed.  But Fifi didn’t let that stop her!  She continued to do everything she did before (beg for cookies, wag her tail, walk around the backyard, wag her tail, run to the cookie jar when she heard the lid come off and… wag her tail)!  Fifi’s been doing wellhowever she had a cluster of three seizures and was rushed to the emergency room this morning.  She was admitted and is having tests performed to determine what the next step is for treating her epilepsy and diabetes.

Chillin' while on vacation in Bar Harbor (6/11)

Fifi’s foster mother says that she has the most incredible spirit.  Her tail never stops wagging  (until this morning) and she loves life more than anything.

We want to ensure that Fifi has what she needs so she can enjoylife once again.  Will you help us?  Please consider making an Angel Donation in Fifi’s name by clicking on the link at the top of this page and let’s get Fifi’s tail wagging again!

Josh

Size: Mini, 14 lbs | Age: 11 Years | Gender: Male

Josh came into foster care when he was rescued from a backyard breeder. He is learning what it means to live in a house where his only job is to be cared for and loved. Josh is friendly with other dogs and is building bonds with his foster brothers and sisters.

Josh is doing extremely well in his foster home, considering the conditions where he came from. His foster parents are delighted with the daily improvements they see in him and feel that it would be best for Josh to remain in permanent foster care. He’s come a very long way in a short period of time thanks to their dedication and commitment to him.

Please consider making an angel donation so that we can continue to provide the excellent medical care that Josh so richly deserves.

Zach

Size: Toy | Age: 12 Years | Gender: Male

Zach is a tiny, emaciated boy who shakes all the time. Almost all his teeth had to be removed due to dental neglect. The remaining ones were left because Zach’s body is so calcium depleted his jaw would have broken if the remaining teeth were extracted. His anal glands were so impacted that the fluid had hardened. Zach had a severe infestation of whipworms which contributed to a skin condition. He has been treated for the whipworms and we hope his skin will begin to improve. Zach’s knees are fused because of luxating patellas. He is blind in one eye. Despite the severe neglect he has suffered, he is a very sweet and affectionate dog.

Zach will remain in permanent foster care where he will be safe, well cared for and much loved for the remainder of his life.

Please consider being an angel for Zach.
